To be Canadian means to be free and happy without having alot of money we could just look outside and see freedom and happiness. We have a farely clean enviroment witch I like because I feel like my friends and I, helped make it that way and keep it clean. I love being Canadian because we get an education, we have comedy, and we have sports and I absolutly love sports. In Canada we have RCMP to proteced us when we are in danger. Another reason why I love to be Canadian mostly because all the people are friendly and kind. I consider Canada to be my home because I love it here and I grew up here with all my friends and family.
    I LOVE TO BE CANADIAN.

To be canadian means to me is to be free to do what I want, but under some rules or Authority. It also means a democratic country, which means that people get to vote for their prime minister, etc. It also means to me prairies because where I live there are no mountians, cliffs, etc. It is all flat. It can get really dry here. It is good farm land here because we have rich soil, aand sometimes water. I live on a farm, most off the people in Saskatchewan farm, other places they ranch. Another word that describe Canada is or what it means to be canadian. Love is another word that describe canadian is because we all are friendly, and knid. We care for people. Anotherword is equal because we are not higher than others we consider ourself to be equal to others most of the time any way. We are helpful because we will help others countries, or people out in the time of needs. Canada is a home as place to grow up for me. Canadian, Canada means different thing to different people. This is what it means to me.

This is what I think being Canadian means.
I think Canada is a great place to grow up. Canada has families, freedom, and friendly people. Our moto is “from sea to sea”, we have a red and white national flag, with a maple leaf on it. We have a multicultural society. Our national animal is a beaver. Canada has beautiful places, and prairies. In Canada we have different languages. Canada has peace and equals. We have education, RCMP, settlement, villages and democracy. We have moose, and tons of other animals/ nature. We have different races. We have a national anthem. We have money. We have different foods. We have provinces. We have different seasons like spring, summer, fall and winter. We also have sports like hockey, basketball, baseball, lacross and many other sports. Canada is a very nice place to be. That is what I think being Canadian means to me.

What it means to be Canadian.
In Canada we have two official languages, English and French, we are a multicultural sociaty. Our official flag is red and white, it has a maple leaf on it and usually when you are raising the flag you are supposed to sing our national anthem O’Canada.
In Canada we have beautiful places such as Waterton Lakes National Park and Banff National Park. Canada has ten provinces and three territories. Canada has Prime Ministers, not Presidents. The Prime Minister in Canada is Stephen Harper. Canada has Royal Canadian Mounted Police(RCMP)
In Canada we have four climates, Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall. Famous people such as Wayne Gretzky, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Rachel Mcadams, and Mike Myers come from Canada. The two most famous sports in Canada is Hockey and Football. Some of the foods that come from Canada are Smarties, Coffie Crisp, Areo, Tim Hortons doughnuts, and Salt and Viniger chip, and my favorite, Canadian beef.
i live in Canada and i am proud to be Canadian.

    Community Citizen of the Year
If I were to chose a person to be Community Citizen of the YEAR it would be Donna Unterreiner. I think that she would be a good community citizen of the year because she is involved in many different thing in the town including:
She is the Mayor. Being the mayor is a very hard job because you have to make decisions for the town and make sure that things are going the way that they are suposed to.
She is also a part of Beautify Bengough. Donna goes around town watering the flowers and the trees in the summer time. When there are fundraisers for the Beautify Bengough she get involved with them.
Donna is also a part of the Party in the Park. She has to help get organized and set up for different things like the Battle of the Bands or when the bands from other places come to sing for us. She most likely also helps with the ordering of the foods for the Party in the Park.
Another thing that she is involved with is community Choir. She sings to all different people when they come to see Bengough’s choir or when they invite us to come and sing in their community.
One last thing that Donna is involved with is curling. She goes to curl every Wednesday night at 7:00(in the winter months) at the curling rink, and plays against different teams in the community.
Donna Unterreiner would be a good person for Community Citizen of the Year in Bengough.

    Community Citizen Of The Year
The community citenxen of the year that i chose to write about is Lynette Birg. Lynette was born on April 25, 1960 in Bengough,SK. She moved to Port Hardy in B.C in 1969. She worked at the Royal Bank for a couple years and then took up a hairdressing trade. She has two childeren, Trisha and Timothy Vyse, and one granddaughter, Mataya. She married Matt in Ogema on August 2nd, 1997.
Lynette was the mayor in Bengough for about 3 years. She knew the challenges ahead of her and worked very hard to help make our community a thriving little prairie town and a great place to live. She encouraged everyone in the community to take part in decision making and welcomed any new ideas on how to improve our town. She realized the potential that Bengough had set goals to make it happen. She took pride in her community and earned the people’s respect.
Lynette also works shift work at the Bengough Health Centre as a Special Care Aid. She loves the residents there and associates with everyone. She always lends a hand to anyone when needed.
Family is also important to Lynette. She treasures her free time with her childeren and granddaughter.
Lynette also enjoys singing and playing guitar. She teaches guitar lessons and singing lessons in Bengough and Ogema. She is very patient with her students and works hard with each one. She understands the frusteration that they experience when first starting, but doesn’t give up on them. She encourages them to practice and get involved in local talent shows, which she also helps out with.
Lynette spends countless hours with BMAC(Bengough Municipal Arts Council) organizing concerts and shows, including “Party in the Park” or “Gateway Festival” as it is now called. Besides organizing and promoting these events, she also volunteers her time working at hte gate, the tables, chairs, etc. Whatever needs doing, she’s always around to help.
This is why I think Lynette deserves the title “Community Citizen of the Year”.

    The Community Citizren.

I choose Tanya Frisk-Welburn for the Community Citizen award. Tanya helps out all over the community.
Tanya conducts the Grade 5-9 choir. They have sung at the Christmas Cantata, the Drop in Center and will be singing in the Music Festival coming up in March.
She coaches Junior Boys Volleyball. The boys’ volleyball team had 12 boys. On the team there were grade seven and grade nine boys. Tanya and the team had a pretty successeful year.
Tanya is on the Borderland Music Festival Committe. This is the first time that Bengough has ever hosted this event. Tanya was the person responsible for bringing the Festival to Bengough. She found a new piano for the schooland with the help of community members has raised the money to purchase it.
Tanya is a member of BMAC. BMAC stands for Bengough Municipal Arts Council. BMAC hosts the party in the Park every summer. The party in teh park is a weekend for different performers to come and enterytain. Performers sing, dance, play guitar, play the piano, and other instruments. They also have several headliners. this year Emerson Drive will be coming. They also hold different performances throughout the year featuring Canadian performers.
Tanya takes her classes down to see the art gallery. They give a little donation every time they go so they can keep getting the shows in, and help pay towards the lighting and heating. They show a lot of different pieces all the time and feature Canadian artists. None of the pieces are the same. Some of the pieces have writing in them or on them. They each have something unique about them and they are really neat to see. By taking her classes there she helps support the art gallery and it lets the kids expeience something new.
Tanya was born in Swift Current. She went to Assiniboia schools for kindergarten to grade 9 and to Weyburn for Grades 10-12. She graduated in 1988. Tanya recieved her Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewanin 1992. She was married on December 30 1993.
Throughout Tanya’s School yearsshe participated in dance, piano, choir, swimmingand all school sports and intermural programs.
Tanya’s family consists of her husband Greg, and their two daughters Janaya and Joely. Janaya is ten and in grade five. Joely is in seven and in grade two.
Tanya started teaching in Turtleford until 1996. She started teaching part-time in Bengough in 1997. Later she got a full time job and teaches Gradee 9-12 Math, Grades 5-10 Art and some Grade 5/6 Math. Tanya is willing to help anyone in her classes when they need help.
Tanya’s family lives in a house near the railroad tracks in Bengough. They also have a farm near Big Beaver. Tehy lived in the trailer until they got a house in Bengough. Tanya and the girls go out to the farm in calvign season to help Greg calve. They live in the trailer during calving season.
Tanya is a very friendly and helpful citizen of the community. If you ever need any help in something you could call her and i’m sure she’ll be willing to help out. I choose Tanya because as you can see she is a pretty woderful women, teacher, mother and much more.
